ABOUT THE TIDES PROGRAM

The TIDES program is an online effort to provide access to primary resources in East Texas libraries, archives, museums and other cultural institutions. It began in 2002 through a Texas Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund grant and continues to expand through an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grant awarded in 2005.

As a portal to the contributing institution´s collections, the program will help individuals locate materials relevant to their interests and link learners to primary resource materials to inspire creative thinking for class projects and to promote positive attitudes toward learning through the use of online materials by creating an online portal of regional primary resource materials to fulfill the research, informational, and instructional needs of higher education.

The materials in the TIDES program represent only a small percentage of items in contributing institutions and have been chosen in some cases to focus on a particular collection or period. Any of the contributing institutions can be contacted for further information about their materials online or in-house.
