Hermitage July 19th, 1837

Dear Sir,

This will be handed to you by

the Revd. Littleton Fowler, a gentleman who

comes recommended to me, as worthy the

attention of all moral and good men, and

as such I beg leave to make him known

to you, and to ask for him your kind

and hospitable attention.

The Revd. Mr. Fowler is sent as a

missionary to your Country, by the

Bishops of the Methodist Society of

this Country,  the mission for which

he has been chosen, shows his high

standing with his own sect, and he

maintains the esteem and respect

of all other denominations, and

in his principles and practice a

pure republican.  I therefore again

recommend him to your kind

attention.

My health is feeble and checkered

but am thankful to be once more

in retirement in the Shades of the

Hermitage where we would be happy

to salute Thee and hail Thee welcome

Wishing you prosperity in yr. [your]

administration and your Country

freedom and peace, I remain yr. friend
