Informational markers line the one mile hiking trail around the rim of Capulin Volcano. Each marker pertains to something in it's vicinity.
Gambel Oak
This is another important browse plant for deer. In the winter when many other food sources fail, the acorns are eaten by chipmunks and many kinds of birds. The roots of the gambel oak help to prevent erosion, and the foliage provides shelter for many small wildlife species.
