The Database
This button will take you into the research portion of the TIDES project from the home page. The TIDES database can be easily accessed from various points in the TIDES website. There is a "TIDES Database" clickable link in the menu bar at the left of each page, plus links to items in the collections in the lesson plans and pre-defined searches. There are two main options for viewing the collection; "Browse" and "Advanced Search."
Browse
Use the browse option for viewing items in a collection without specifying search criteria. To view a different collection, select a collection from the drop-down list and click Go.
Collection List
Select a collection to browse and click Go.
Page Navigation
If the collection contains more items than can be displayed on a single page, click the hyperlinked page numbers to view other pages.
Previous and Next Page
If the collection contains more items than can be displayed on a single page, click Next or Previous to view other pages.
Using Advanced Search
The search options presented differ based on your initial choice to search Across all fields, by Selected fields, or by Proximity. The default selection is to search across all fields.
Search Across All Fields
Search Operators
Choose to search for all of the words, the exact phrase, any of the words, none of the words, or a combination.
Search
Click Search when you have finished specifying your search criteria.
Clear All
Click clear all to reset all the search fields.
Available and Selected Collections
The Help link at the top of each screen in the TIDES database can be selected if more specific search help is needed.
Viewing Items
Item Description
View descriptive information about the item. Clicking on a hyperlinked word will launch a new search for that word within the collection where the item resides.
Previous/Next
Click Previous or Next to go to the next item in your results page.
Back to Results
Click Back to Results to return to the results page.
Add to Favorites
Add the item to My Favorites.
Image Toolbar
Use these operations to navigate the image.
Viewing Compound Objects
Documents or multi-sided objects are displayed in viewers that provide additional navigation appropriate to the item being viewed.
Each color below corresponds to a definition of that element.

Compound Object Viewer
Back to Results
Click Back to Results to return to the results page.
Add Document to Favorites/Add Item to Favorites
Add the complete document or item to My Favorites.
Add Page to Favorites/Add Side to Favorites
Add the current page or side to My Favorites.
Image Toolbar
Use these operations to navigate the image. See Image Toolbar for more information.
Reference URL
Click Reference URL to access a window that contains the URL of the compound object being viewed. Copy the URL within the text box and paste it into citations and other references.
