At the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler, Texas, we meet the members of the African Black-footed Penguin exhibit. They can be found on the south-western coast of Africa. The African penguins have a black stripe and spots on their chest, and the pattern of their spots is like a fingerprint, each is different. They are a monogamous species which means they mate with the same partner for life. Females will lay two eggs with an incubation period of 38-42 days. Penguins can stay underwater for up to 2 minutes while they search for their pray, small fish and squid. The African penguin makes a braying, donkey-like mating call, which earned it the nickname "jackass penguin."
