Jose Clemente Orozco was born in 1883 and died in 1949. He was a Mexican social realist painter who specialized in bold murals, and dedicated his life to depicting the conflict, chaos and misery of life through his art.
Along with famous muralist Diego Rivera, Orozco was a leader of the Mexican Renaissance. He was very politically active and critical of the bloody toll of the Mexican Revolution. After the war he became a political cartoonist, publishing most of his work in local newspapers. His work often explored the theme of the human versus the mechanical, and he was well known for painting clear and detailed images that looked almost photograhic.
