At the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler, Texas we find some lemurs basking in the sun. Lemurs are small primates that have very large, reflective eyes and a wailing call, earning them the latin name for "ghosts," lemures. In nature, lemurs are found only on or near the island of Madagascar. Lemurs are an endangered species due to habitat destruction and hunting over the last few centuries. Lemurs have a very long tail that they use to communicate with each other. They also have opposable thumbs and long toes for holding onto tree branches.
