The guppy, also known as Poecilia reticulata, is one of the most popular freshwater aquarium species in the world. They are native to Barbados, Brazil, Guyana, Netherlands Antilles, Trinidad and Tobago, the US Virgin Islands, and Venezuela, but are now present on every continent except for Antarctica. They are often used as a means of mosquito control but can negativly impact the local native environments they are introduced into.
In this short video, watch guppies swimming in ponds at Pronatura Peninsula de Yucatan's El Zapotal reserve in Yucatan, Mexico.
