A tour guide explains the cultural significance of a Dominican emblem painted on a wall in a church in Tepoztlan, Mexico. He explains the fleur-de-lis, yin yang, four cardinal points, and the Indian notion of day and night.
Tepoztlan's 16th Century Dominican Church is located near the market in the center of town. Construction of the church was terminated in 1580, under the supervision of architect Francisco Becerra. The facade of the gated entrance to the churchyard leading from the market area has been decorated with indigenous motifs formed with beans and seeds.
