Diego Rivera was a world famous Mexican painter. Between 1922 and 1953, he painted murals in Mexico City, Chapingo, Cuernavaca, San Francisco, Detroit, and New York City. A member of the Mexican Communist Party, his paintings often dealt with Mexican society and reflected the country’s 1910 Revolution. He created art that told stories, and his unique style used large, simplified figures and bold colors with an Aztec influence. In this video, TIDES art teacher Alisa Ripley discusses one of Rivera’s paintings, a mural located in the Palacio Cortes Museum in Mexico.
