Santos Salvador Morales works in Cuernavaca, using traditional materials and techniques to paint wood, Styrofoam, and ceramic ornaments and wall hangings with vinyl-based paint and glaze. He and his coworkers have been making these art pieces with their hands for over 10 years. Santos’ grandparents and parents passed down the tradition to him when he was a young boy. Santos paints a Styrofoam ball freehand, depicting two doves, and explains that each design in the shop is original, no two being the same. There is no preset design – each piece, whether it is a ball, cross, bird, or other, is unique and comes from the artists’ imaginations. Another employee shows the base painting and how he paints landscape designs.
