In this video, a worker at Tequila Cuervo's installation, in Jalisco, Mexico, harvests the piña (or heart of the blue agave plant, resembling a pineapple), stripping the thorn-covered leaves (pencas) from the piña.
Agave is a succulent plant which grows chiefly in Mexico, the southern and western United States, and in central and tropical South America. Agave are popular ornamental plants, but can also be used for many different things such as food, tea, and tinctures. Blue agave (Agave tequilana) is used to make the popular alcoholic drink, Tequila. The other three most commonly grown species include Agave americana, Agave angustifolia, and Agave attenuata.
