Aguascalientes literally translates to “hot waters” named for the numerous hot springs in that area of México.  It became a state on October 27, 1875 when it separated from Zacatecas.  Aguascalientes is the first national producer of grapes and wine and was once a major silver mine and railway transporter.  It is now mostly an industrialized state. Aguascalientes is beginning to become a popular tourist destination due to its beauty, haciendas, and baths that have both historic and recreational importance.
