Fulbright-Hays Summer Seminar Abroad Program 2006

“Challenges to Mexican Democracy:
Social Justice, Civil Rights and the Rule of Law”

In order to gain a better understanding of Mexican culture, Rachel Galan (Texas Tides Program Director) attended a Fulbright-Hays Summer Seminar highlighting modern Mexican culture. This Fulbright experience facilitated the building of partnerships with U.S. and Mexican educators to help enrich the K-12 resources available through the Texas Tides program, allowed for the creation of thousands of culturally themed photos to enrich the Texas Tides database, provided filming opportunities for the creation of virtual expeditions to Mexico, and provided a basis of cultural awareness and understanding for the continued building of cultural resources to help meet the need of East Texas teachers to bridge the cultural divide present in their classrooms.
