In Part 3 of this lesson, students will continue working on, ordering and illustrating their timelines of Sam Houston's life. The teacher may present information about Sam Houston's life in a variety of ways - for example, PowerPoint, lecture or individual research. Regardless of the method, students should take notes unsing notecards, and prepare at least one card for each date mentioned.

This is a continuation of the previous lesson; therefore, the timeline activity will be continued. The teacher may choose to have students complete this lesson in the same fashion as the previous lesson or to continue it as a lecture. Use the Sam Houston Memorial Museum site to help with the sequence of events of the Texas Revolution and of Sam Houston’s life. This site has an organized and easy timeline which can be presented to the class as a PowerPoint or as a lecture.
The students will need to take notes using note cards regardless of how the information is presented. Students will need to prepare at least one card for each date mentioned.
After processing the information, the students will organize their note cards into complete thoughts. The students will decide, based on the previous lesson and today’s information, what to include in their timeline of Sam Houston’s life.
The students will complete illustrated timeline.
Evaluate the summarization and accuracy of the information presented to the students in both lessons. Did the student follow the guidelines set by teacher? Evaluate note cards and note taking ability.
The second lesson is a little harder than the first in order to encourage the students to truly listen, think and make their own critical decisions about the Texas Revolution and Sam Houston. It becomes much more real to them when they are not spoon fed every little detail.
