In this lesson plan, students will learn the story of Mexican sweets.  Students will use information gathered from the TIDES website to create a story using sweets as the main characters. The students will finish this lesson by performing their stories, complete with costumes and dialogue. They make work in pairs or in teams of four.

NOTE: Meets Mexico Education Standards

  1. Students will write a step by step story: (i.e. characters, setting, and a plot with a beginning, middle and end).

  2. Students will write a description of each of the sweets used in their story
  3. Students will write a rough draft of their story which they will edit before turning in their final copy.

  1. Students will look for pictures and information about Mexican sweets on the TIDES website that can be used in their story. They will print out these images.
  2. As a class, students will discuss creative writing. They will then write original stories about the Mexican sweets.
  3. Students will draw a cartoon to illustrate their story and will add dialogue for their characters.

The final version of the story must reflect extensive proofreading. Once the stories are completed, the students will present them to the class. They may also perform a play based on their stories.
