This simple project allows students the opportunity to create their own "ofrendas" - small alters, shrines or offerings in remembrance of their loved ones who have passed on. This activity is based on Mexican traditions and follows the example set by Mexican school children who annually create ofrendas in their schools and homes as part of Day of the Dead traditions. Students are encouraged to use their creativity to complete this project, drawing on either personal experiences or fictional characters to inspire their designs.
This photograph of an ofrenda made by a student in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, is one of many which inspired this project.
